You have reached a place where we talk entertainment. All kinds of entertainments from movies, books, series, short stories even music. We love all of these forms of entertainment don’t we. Here at IC, there will be posts about all the forms of entertainments and with those we will try to understand our pop-culture altogether. But the question you might be thinking about is why?
Why is there a need for understanding our culture?
Well, I have an answer to that. Our forms of entertainment and not only for “entertainment.”. Look at some of the cult cinemas or books or even some of the most memorable songs. Look at your favourites. Are they entertaining or are they emotional or thought provoking or just bat shit amazing. I am pretty damn sure that the piece of entertainment is considered classic when it is artistic and evoking and symbolising.

What is film literacy?
Well, Film Literacy is the process of understanding Cinema. It's where Cinema are analysed. What are the themes of a Movie?
Why does a movie matter?
The other question you might have is,
Why do we have to know about all of this?
Most of the audience doesn’t actually read the book the film might be based on. Neither they go to some of the amazing films. If you look at any years release list of movies you will find that most of the amazing cinema wasn’t praised at the time of its release. Books get that praise because there is less number of people as audience. Mostly, Movies are forms of mass consumption. Due to that fact, most of the studios make crowd pleasing movies.
In the current scenario, every movie is pleasing as long as it is filled with formulaic expositions. Because most of the audience members are not film literate. They go to theatres or these days, go to streaming platforms to watch garbage movies. Then people keep blaming the makers for making shitty movies. But, we as the audience have the responsibility to be sound and literate enough to choose a good film.
Theatres will be opened soon at all places and this might the time where we create this change. We go to watch those films which deserve our time and money.
How do we do that, you ask?
Well, you can search for the ratings of a film.
You can choose the genres you love and then choose a film in that.
You can also watch classics of the genre you chose and then understand what is the difference between modern day cinema and the classics.
